System Maintenance and Control

Using these commands, the system administrator maintains and controls certain features of the system.

CONSOLE-ON/CONSOLE-OFF

CONSOLE-ON assigns the system console to any process. CONSOLE-OFF disables this feature.

CLAIM

Recovers blocks of contiguous frames from the POVF Linked Space.

DEFINE-CURSOR

Allows administrators to specify cursor functions for unsupported terminals.

INIT-CURSOR

Initializes pointers to the terminal definition file (CURSOR).

:INIT-TAPE

Resets all logical tape or diskette units to their default assignments as given at coldstart, and clears all tape or diskette buffers.

LOGON

Logs another process onto the system; LOGON is primarily used to log on a process that is to run background jobs.

LOGOFF

Logs a specified process off the system.

MAXUSERS

Sets the maximum number of users who can log on to the system at any one time.

MODEM-ON/MODEM-OFF

MODEM-ON enables DTR monitoring for a specified line. MODEM-OFF disables DTR.

POKE

Inserts a TCL command or a character string in the input buffer of another process.

RESET-TAPE

Cancels a logical tape unit assignment to a physical backup medium.

STACK-ON/STACK-OFF

STACK-ON enables the TCL Stacker for a specified process. STACK-OFF disables the TCL Stacker.

:STARTSPOOLER

Initializes or restarts the Spooler without coldstarting the system.

STARTPTR

Initializes or restarts a system printer, assigns form queues to a printer, and specifies the number of pages to be skipped between print jobs, the type of printer, and the number of the line to which the printer is assigned.

SET-TAPE

Assigns a logical tape unit to a physical backup medium.

SET-TERM

Sets the system-wide default characteristics for terminals and printers.

TANDEM

Allows display and control of another process on your terminal; TANDEM effectively links two lines to one process.
