Different Telnet clients support a large variety of different screen and keyboard options. Telnet client options are as varied as available third party Telnet clients. However, this section includes a list of general options which may be available on most Telnet clients. See the documentation written for your client for additional information.
NOTE |
This list of guidelines is not comprehensive. You will require additional procedures and configuration of options when using Telnet software. |
Choose a terminal type code using the TERM command that corresponds to the Terminal Emulation you have chosen for your Telnet client:
In Telnet client configuration, use the Backspace key (when required) rather than the Delete key.
Turn off local echo is that option is manually controlled.
Determine what BREAK sequence your client supports. Some Telnet clients do not support hard breaks. The Telnet protocol defines both BREAK and IP (Interrupt Process) codes. Both of these are used by mvTelnet to generate a BREAK-KEY signal to the server line. If your Telnet client supports neither of these, choose a soft break using a control character, such as Ctrl+C and then use the PROTOCOL command from TCL to set that character as a soft break key for your line.
