Installing OpenDB on Windows

OpenDB is a stand-alone Windows application that provides access to ODBC databases from the D3 environment. It is called a stand-alone application because the OpenDB Server and the D3 OSFI/ODBC Driver are provided in one application.

Note:

The default OpenDB program is a 32–bit executable and will only recognize the 32–bit ODBC drivers installed. This version of OpenDB will run on either 32 or 64–bit Windows. However please note the following caveats:

  • If running on a 64–bit Windows system and you want to use the 64–bit ODBC drivers, install the 64 bit version of OpenDB (available from the 64Bit folder on the OpenDB installation media). Note that the 64–bit version of OpenDB will only recognize the 64–bit ODBC drivers.

  • You can use the 32–bit version of OpenDB on 64–bit Windows. However,  the 32–bit OpenDB version will only recognize the 32–bit ODBC drivers.

  • On 64–bit Windows systems, the 32–bit ODBC drivers are not managed by the default ODBC data source administrator. Instead, use the odbcad32.exe program in C:\WINDOWS\SysWOW64 folder to manage the 32–bit ODBC drivers.
