Logging On and Off D3

Once D3 has started and the terminals are ready to be logged on as D3 terminals, pressing any key at the terminal produces the following display:

Enter your user id:

Logging on is a two step process.

To log on to D3:

  1. Enter a D3 user-ID.

The system administrator should assign a unique user-ID to each person who uses the computer.

  2. Enter the master dictionary or account wanted.

This account prompt can be bypassed by defining an initial master dictionary (md) in each user-ID in the user’s file. The D3 system has a user-ID and account name defined:

    dm - user-ID

    and the master dictionary entry:

    dm - account name

D3 Database Management System - Enter your D3 user id: dm

    master dictionary: dm

  3. Logon is complete.

The system is either at the TCL prompt (:) or at a menu provided by the application developer.

    NOTE

If the logon procedure fails because the maximum allowed users limit has been reached, an error is logged to the errors file.

To log off from D3:

Exit any D3 application running from the TCL prompt.

Connect time = 60 Mins.; CPU=4240 Units; LPTR pages= 0

logged off at 09:00:00 on 14 Mar 2003

This logs off a single terminal; it does not shut down the D3 MDBMS. To shut down the virtual machine, see the D3 System Administration Guide.
