Unlike on D3 UNIX platforms, the FSI and VME on D3 Windows can be installed either together or separately. It is recommended that you have both the VME and the FSI installed on your system. The VME, which acts as the front-end to the FSI, is required to log on to the FSI. Additionally, the FSI Server is required, because each D3 file server must have an FSI process started in order to access the D3 tables.
Before you begin working with the FSI, verify that:
Both the VME and FSI Server are installed on your system (see the D3 Windows Installation Guide).
Both VME and FSI Servers are configured during installation.
For example, if you selected a Typical installation, verify that your D3 VME is started in Windows Services (see Starting and Stopping the FSI Server).
