Adding a new data source when the D3 ODBC Server is running

Complete these instructions to add a new data source (if the D3 ODBC Server is running).

Procedure

  1. Choose from the list below:
    • For Windows NT, double-click the ODBC (32-bit) icon from the Control Panel.

    • For Windows 2000, double-click Administrative Tools from the Control Panel. Then, double-click the Data Sources (ODBC) icon. The ODBC Data Source Administrator control panel opens.

  2. Select the File DSN tab.
  3. Click Add to open the Create New Data Source dialog box.
  4. Select D3 ODBC Driver from the list of possible drivers.
  5. Click Next to continue.
  6. Enter a name for the File DSN which will be created, then click Next to continue.

The filename and driver information displays.

  7. Click Finish. The D3 Data Source Connection Parameters dialog box opens.
  8. Enter the new data source information, using the TAB key to move between fields. For suggested settings, see Configuring an existing data source. Since the name for the File DSN was specified in a previous step, this field, along with the description, are not available for input.
  9. Click OK when all required fields are completed.

A connection to the ODBC Server specified in the data source information is attempted. If successful, the ODBC Data Source Administrator control panel opens again. If the connection is not successful, then a dialog box appears with the message A connection could not be made using the file data source parameters entered. Save the non-verified file DSN?. If this dialog box appears, select No, then return to step 3.
