Working with a file DSN

The File DSN was introduced with ODBC 3.0. Therefore, if your machine is running an ODBC 2.0 Administrator or older, the ability to add a File DSN is not available. When creating the DSN, it must be SQL compliant (no spaces, dashes, plus signs and so on).

  1. Adding a new data source
    When adding a File DSN, the default behavior requires a successful connection to the ODBC server. Without a successful connection, the data source information will not be saved. If the ODBC server is not available when the File DSN is being created, then the Advanced tab must be utilized. Depending on the status of your D3 ODBC Server, running or not running, follow the appropriate set of instructions.
  2. Configuring an existing data source
    When configuring an existing File DSN, the D3 ODBC Server must be running. If the D3 ODBC Server is not running or the connection fails then the error ‘General error: Invalid File dsn…’ is displayed. Any changes made to the connection parameters are discarded.
  3. Deleting a data source
    Complete these instructions to delete a data source.
