Complete these instructions to add a new data source (if
the D3 ODBC Server is not running).
Procedure
- Choose from the list below:
-
For Windows NT, double-click the ODBC (32-bit) icon from the Control Panel.
-
For Windows 2000, double-click Administrative Tools from the Control Panel. Then, double-click the Data Sources
(ODBC) icon. The ODBC Data Source Administrator control
panel opens.
- Select the File DSN tab.
- Click Add to open the Create New
Data Source dialog box.
- Select D3 ODBC Driver from the
list of possible drivers.
- Click Advanced. The Advanced File
DSN Creation Settings dialog box opens. The keyword-value pair DRIVER={D3 ODBC Driver} is displayed in the input box.
- Enter data source information in the form of keyword-value
pairs on each line below the first entry DRIVER={D3 ODBC
Driver}. For example, the keyword values entered might
look like those listed below:
DRIVER={D3 ODBC Driver}
SERVER=123.45.678.999
VIRTUALMACHINE=pick0
USER=dm
ACCOUNT=sqldemo
D3VERSION=720
- Click OK when all keyword-value
pairs have been entered.
The Create New Data Source dialog box displays again.
- Click Next.
- Enter a name for the File DSN which will be created based
on the keyword-value pairs entered in step 6, then click Next to continue.
The data source information displays.
- Click Finish. The D3 Data Source Connection
Parameters dialog box displays.
- Enter the necessary data source information, using the
TAB key to move between fields. For suggested settings, see Configuring an existing data source. Since the name for the File DSN
was specified in a previous step, this field, along with the description,
are not available for input.
- Click OK when all required fields
are completed.
- A connection to the ODBC Server specified in the data
source information is attempted. If successful, the ODBC Data Source
Administrator control panel opens again. If the connection is not
successful, then a dialog box appears with the message A connection
could not be made using the file data source parameters entered. Save
the non-verified file DSN?. If this dialog box appears, select
Yes.
