ODBC data source administration

This section describes how to add, modify, and delete data sources using the ODBC Data Source Administrator control panel.

For ODBC Data Source Administrator 3.0 and above, there are three DSN tabs, namely, User, System and File. Both a User DSN and a System DSN are machine data sources, stored on the system with a user-defined name, allowing connection information to be utilized only by the user on that machine. A File DSN is stored in a file, allowing the connection information to be shared among many users.

The procedures for creating, configuring, or deleting a User, System or File DSN are explained in this section. Consult a Microsoft Guide for more information on selecting one of the three types of DSNs.
