Starting the Server in the Recovery Mode

Perform these steps to coldstart the mvBase Server in Recovery mode:

  1. Restart Windows (if applicable).

  2. Launch or switch to the Administration Utility.

  3. Select the Server tab. Ensure that the Server is not already running. (Status should show as either Stopped or Uninstalled.)

  4. Ensure that these components of the mvBase Server are fully configured within acceptable parameters:

  5. Ensure that the Workstation has not been started (view the Workstation tab). Stop the Workstation if it has been started. Workstation startup and connection should follow Server startup.

  6. While in the Server tab, ensure that the autoboot and fileload options are not active (selected).

  7. Start the Server as an application (select the Server Application Run As mode, then select Start). The mvBase System Configuration dialog box displays the default processes, lines and fileload tape device settings.

  8. Select the Recovery Mode option in the System Configuration dialog box, and ensure that the Fileload option is not selected.

  9. Select OK. The Server starts as an application, and displays the TCL prompt.

  10. Log to the SYSPROG account.

  11. At the TCL prompt, type: RECOVER

Informational messages display, then the current Overflow Table displays with the following prompt:

  12. DO YOU WANT TO TRIM THE OVERFLOW TABLE?

    (Y/N) +

  13. Type Y at the prompt. The table is trimmed, the new table displays, and the coldstart procedure is started again.

During the coldstart, messages similar to the following display:

  14. COUNT SYSTEM ERRORS

    [401] NO ITEMS PRESENT.

The system then verifies itself. If no frame mismatches are detected, the following message displays:

    [341] OPERATING SYSTEM SOFTWARE

    VERIFIED

  15. If any frame mismatches are detected, a message such as the following displays:

  16. 214 92AD 9CDE

    489 C317 3746

[342] *** THE SYSTEM SOFTWARE DOES NOT VERIFY! ***

THERE ARE 2 FRAMES WITH MISMATCHES

  17. Write down all the numbers, then inform your system supplier.

  18. When the COLD-START Proc has finished running, it logs itself off, and the logon prompt appears. The system is now up and running.

  19. NOTE

Rocket suggests doing a FILE-SAVE, restarting the Server, selecting the Fileload option, and file-loading from the most current backup at the user’s earliest convenience.
