The following sections describe how to make changes to an existing account and to user-IDs. You can change or delete passwords of both accounts and users, as well as any other elements included in an Account Definition item or user-ID.
Changing or Deleting a Password
To change or delete an account’s password at any time, use the PASSWORD command.
Format
PASSWORD |
The PASSWORD command can be used to update Account Definition items and user-IDs in the SYSTEM Dictionary.
NOTE |
All other users must be logged off before you change or delete the password of an account, since the SYSTEM Dictionary is altered by this procedure. |
When you enter the PASSWORD command, you are prompted for the account name:
ENTER ACCOUNT NAME ? |
Enter the name of the account whose password you want to change or delete. You can also enter a user-ID. You are then prompted to enter a new password:
ENTER NEW PASSWORD ? |
Either enter a new password or press ENTER to delete the existing password. If you press ENTER, you are prompted to confirm that you do not want a password. Type N or Y at the prompt. If you enter a new password, the item in the SYSTEM Dictionary is updated—that is, the new password is stored in encrypted form in Attribute 7 of the Account Definition item or user-ID.
Changing Other Account Definition Codes
To change the system privilege level, retrieval and update codes, or any other element of an Account Definition item or user-ID, use the Editor to edit the item in the SYSTEM Dictionary.
NOTE |
All other users must be logged off before you make any changes to an Account Definition item or a user-ID, since the SYSTEM Dictionary is altered by this procedure. |
