File-Defining Item or D-pointer

There is an entry in the master dictionary that is the file-defining item for the file. It is also called a D-pointer because D3 uses a D dictionary code within the master dictionary item to specify that this item points to a data file. The D-pointer contains the name of the file, its address on disk, how large the file is, and other relevant information pertinent to the entire file.
