Exiting Items

The CTRL+X commands offer different methods of exiting an item. CTRL+X indicates exiting this item and performing one of a series of options. For example, an item can be exited and the information filed (saved), or the item can be exited without the information being filed.

If an item is exited without being filed, the changes made during the editing session are not saved. To save the changes, the item must be filed. Several options that exit an item do not file it. If changes are made to an item during the current editing session and an option is selected that exits the item without filing it, the system double checks with the user to make sure that the changed information is not to be saved. All Update Processor exiting commands are a minimum of two characters. When CTRL+X is pressed, the current size of the item, file name and item-ID are displayed on the top line of the terminal. Update Processor waits for an additional command.

CTRL+XB

Exit the item and go back to the previous item in the item list or active select list. If there is no previous item, the terminal beeps and remains in the current item.

CTRL+XC

File the current item then compile and catalog it. This option is used with FlashBASIC programs.

CTRL+XE

Exit the item without filing it.

CTRL+XF

File the item, then exit it.

CTRL+XI{(file.reference} {item-ID}

Rename and file the new item. This command prompts for a standard file item specification where the item is copied. After entering the file item specification information, the system asks if the old item from which the new item was created is to be deleted. Enter y to remove the old item, otherwise the original item is unchanged.

CTRL+XK

Exit the item and return to the calling process. If editing with a select list, the select list is terminated.

CTRL+XN

Exit current item and create a new null item. If a name is not entered when the new item is filed, it can be named using the xi option. If there is no ID processing code, Update Processor uses the current date concatenated with a system wide sequence number as the item-ID.

CTRL+XO

Exit and delete the item. If any changes were made to the item, the system prompts to verify that the item is to be deleted.

CTRL+XP

File the item and print it using the Output Processor.

CTRL+XR

File the item, compile it and run it if compilation is successful. This option is used with FlashBASIC programs, macros, and menus.

CTRL+XS

File (save) the item and remain in Update Processor with the current item.
