Upgrade instructions

Complete these instructions to perform an upgrade with a backup file-save tape.

  1. Perform a file-save.

    • Ensure that there is at least one complete file-save of the system (preferably two) prior to starting the upgrade, and verify the save tape with the t-verify or appropriate command.

    • A file-save tape does not back up spooler hold files. To back up the spooler hold files, use sp-edit (cv to turn them into items in a data file, which can be saved to the file-save tape. See the sp-edit Command topic in the D3 Reference Manual for additional information.

  2. Review Getting started:

Note: If migrating to D3 from another D3 platform, Advanced Pick, R83 or another Pick compatible environment, see Migration tips.
  3. Proceed with the upgrade.

  4. Complete the upgrade process by executing the instructions from the dm account in the following sections:

    Running restore-accounts

    Restoring the mds items

    Restoring the dm files

    How to proceed

Note: The default statement to boot D3 is d3 -0. Although the ap command is currently supported, the pick command is not. Replace the ap and pick commands with the d3 command, as future releases of D3 may not support ap. If the commands pick -{port} or ap -{port} are included in the inittab file (/etc/inittab), change them to the new syntax.
