Running restore-accounts

This section details the addition of user data to the upgraded D3 environment. Those upgrading with a file-save tape should continue the upgrade process here.

Note: If you are upgrading from other Pick compatible environments (like Ultimate or SCO), you cannot perform an account-restore from a tape blocked at anything but zero. To set the default block size to zero, at the TCL prompt set the device and then enter:

set-def-tape-blk 0

Those upgrading/migrating from a previous version of D3 Linux, Advanced Pick, R83 or another Pick compatible environment, continue the upgrade process here, after completing the instructions in Installing D3.

Procedure

Insert the file-save tape in the device.

Enter:

set-device

The list of tape devices in the configuration file displays. The tape device numbers may vary, depending on the particular system configuration.

Enter the number that corresponds to the file-save media device.
In this example, 2 is entered.

A similar prompt displays:

Note:
- If upgrading from a release prior to 7.4, the (f2000 option is required on the restore-accounts command.
- If restoring data from an R83 or other Pick compatible environment, see Restoring data for information about options used with restore-accounts.
The file-save tape is read, and any account on the tape which is not already on the system, is restored. The elapsed time depends on the amount of data on the tape(s). If necessary, a prompt displays for the next tape volume when it is ready.

Mount the next volume and type c, if necessary.
After all accounts have been read, any indexes for the restored files are generated. Upon completion, you are returned to TCL.
Enter:

Remove the file-save tape from the device.

Enter:

update-md

The following prompt displays:

Create user id from each account name (y,<n>)?

Respond to this prompt appropriately. If you are not sure, type N (ENTER = default of N).

Enter md file name:

- Enter the name of one of the accounts just restored.
- Repeat this step for all restored accounts.
- After all restored accounts are entered, press ENTER once more to exit the prompt.
