Web-to-Host web server files overview

The web server functions as a central repository where the BlueZone Web-to-Host web server files reside. The Web-to-Host web server files are the output of the Web-to-Host Wizard. These files are used to start fully configured BlueZone emulation client sessions. Using a web browser, your users access a specific URL to download and start the emulation sessions that you configured.

BlueZone Web-to-Host does not utilize a web application. All of the files necessary to support BlueZone Web-to-Host are static files that reside on and can be served up from virtually any web server.

The BlueZone Web-to-Host web server files consist of several HTML web pages, the BlueZone emulation client program files, the BlueZone emulation client configuration files, the BlueZone licensing files, the Web-to-Host Control Module, the Java Web Start files, the BlueZone Web Start files, and a few other miscellaneous files.

  • BlueZone Web-to-Host Launch Methods
    BlueZone Web-to-Host provides several methods for the downloading and launching of BlueZone emulation sessions.
  • First connection (ActiveX)
    The first time a user connects to the BlueZone Web-to-Host URL, the Web-to-Host Control Module (ActiveX Control) downloads and installs in the user's browser, then the Web-to-Host Control Module downloads the preconfigured BlueZone emulation client programs and configuration files to the user's machine. After the files are downloaded, the preconfigured BlueZone emulation clients can be configured to start automatically, or they can be started individually, session by session, by the user.

  • Subsequent connections
    Upon subsequent connections, the user's file versions are checked, and if no new files are found on the web server, the preconfigured BlueZone emulation client sessions immediately start. If any new files are detected, the new files are automatically downloaded to the user's machine first, then the BlueZone emulation client sessions start.
  • Updating BlueZone files
    The Web-to-Host Control Module or Web Start controls the updating of BlueZone files on the user's machine. A scheme to assign a version number is used to keep track of all files that have been downloaded. When new files are placed on the web server, the Web-to-Host Control Module or Web Start detects this and downloads the new files to the user's machine.
