Accessing data

Before OpenDB can access data from an ODBC database, these steps must be carried out:

1. Create a data source (using the ODBC Data Source Administrator) on the computer running OpenDB, which points to the ODBC database that will be accessed.
2. Create an OSFI host data source in the hosts file in the dm account. See Creating an OSFI host data source for more information.
3. Create a Super Q-pointer in a D3 account. See Creating a super Q-pointer for more information.
4. Verify that OpenDB is running by executing the command OpenDB.exe /ping from the command prompt (on the computer running Windows where OpenDB is installed). If OpenDB is running, then a server is listed. See Starting OpenDB for more information.
