Monitoring Response Time

After problems with disk drive space, the biggest problem you may have to manage is overuse of CPU time by certain system processes. Some processes require an inordinate amount of CPU time; on a multiuser system you may need to request that certain types of processing be done during off-hours. The system provides the capability of initiating processes automatically at a specified time, as described in "The MultiValue Operating Environment."

In addition, system response time can suffer as a result of disk drive fragmentation or poor organization of a file system.

When the system is slow, you should determine why this is so. Use these commands for system diagnosis:

LISTU

Lists all users who are currently logged on.

WHERE

Lists the location and status of all currently active processes.

WHAT

Lists information about what user and phantom processes are running, Spooler status, and so on.

NT_PINFO

Displays real-time system activity information.
