Run D3Vme.exe to start the Service Control Manager on Windows. On Windows, the VME is a background service that starts automatically when the server boots.
During installation the setup procedure runs D3Vme /install and installs the service in the Service Database. The D3Vme command, runs automatically from the Service Control Manager and starts the server in background. Users can then connect to it using local workstations or Telnet.
When started in the background, no message is displayed. If the service is started successfully, the Service Control Manager (Services in the control panel), displays the D3 Virtual Machine Environment as Started. Otherwise, Windows displays a message box at boot time indicating that one service was not started successfully. The boot result or any error message is logged in the Windows event viewer under Application.
The VME service must be set up as detailed in Service Setup in the Administrators Guide.
Complete the instructions below to start the VME in the background from the Control Panel.
When started in the foreground, closing the console or logging off the desktop shuts down the D3 VME.
When attempting to close the console window, a dialog box displays. Click OK to continue the shutdown of D3 or CANCEL to abort.
When logging off the desktop, it is not possible to cancel the logoff and shutdown of D3. A warning message displays. Click OK to shutdown D3.
