iSeries Installation Requirements
To install Uniface on iSeries, you need to be familiar with the iSeries environment and system setup. You require training equivalent to at least the IBM i system operator workshop.
Some components will be installed in the Integrated File System, so a working knowledge of the IFS is also required.
You should also be familiar with the function and use of the Uniface Router and Uniface Server. For more information, see Uniface Router and Uniface Server.
Operating System version number and release
See the Platform Availability Matrix for supported versions of IBM i with this version of Uniface.
Disk space
Approximately 245 MB is needed for the electronic distribution itself, on your Windows workstation. This is a self-extracting executable that needs to be run on Windows.
Approximately 500 MB is needed for the unpacked contents of the electronic distribution on your iSeries. After installation this can be removed.
Approximately 325 MB is needed for the installed product.
Licensing Information
Uniface uses Sentinel for license management. If you have a Sentinel license, you must have an Entitlement from Uniface License Management to successfully run Uniface. The Entitlement will be for one of the following:
- On-premise served standalone licensing using a local license file.
- Network licensing using Sentinel Rights Management System (RMS) License Manager (Server).
Note: An RMS server can only be installed on Windows or Unix and remotely called via the RMS address you enter while installing Uniface on iSeries. For instructions on installing the RMS server on Windows or Unix, see Installing the Sentinel RMS License Manager on Windows or Installing the Sentinel RMS License Manager on Unix and Linux
You can configure licensing during installation using the prompts in the Uniface installer, or you can choose to configure this manually in the assignment file.
The product will only run successfully after a license is configured.
Installation user profiles
The user profile that is used to run the installer must have
restore authority on the iSeries system. The iSeries restore commands RSTLIB
and
RSTOBJ
are usually shipped with a public authority level of
*EXCLUDE
. For more information, see Create an Installation User Profile.
The user profile that will own the URouter job must have *ALLOBJ and *JOBCTL authority.
It is recommended that you use the same profile for installing Uniface and for the owner of the URouter job, namely UNIFSID. UNIFSID is the owner of the objects in the installation savefile.
Installation library and directory in the Integrated File System
Identify a library name that will contain
the Uniface product objects. The default library name is
UNIF
UVersion. In this documentation, UNIFxxxx
is used as an example library name.
TCP/IP connectivity
Ensure that there is a TCP/IP port available for use by the Uniface Router. Uniface uses a default TCP/IP port number of 13001. For more information, see Ensure TCP/IP Connectivity.
Also ensure that a TCP host and domain name have been configured on the iSeries system, as well as a DNS server, if needed. Make sure that the iSeries machine can ping
itself by its own host name.
Tools
Note: The OS/400 commands presented in this documentation are based on an unmodified iSeries system. Local modifications and standards can affect actual command usage. Consult your local site administrator for details about your system.
The DB2 Query Manager and SQL Development Kit (57xx-ST1) is needed to run the
STRSQL
and RUNSQLSTM
CL commands.
The Websphere Application
Development Tool Set (57xx-WDS) is needed to run the STRPDM
and
STRSEU
CL commands.
