Installing D3

The underlying UNIX operating system must be installed before installing D3.

Additional notes for modifying this installation for a turnkey system are located in the Creating a Turnkey System section of the D3 System Administration Guide. Once the system is installed, it must also be activated as outlined in Product activation.

Warning: Beginning with release 7.4, the frame size changed from 2 KB to 4 KB. You must perform a file-save before installing D3 because you need to do a restore-accounts (f2000 and cannot upgrade with data files in place if you are upgrading from a system prior to release 7.4. For additional information, see Migration tips.
  1. Loading the D3 package
    Complete these instructions to load the D3 package and to run D3_setup.
  2. D3 installation options
    After the D3 package is loaded, a D3 installation script executes to generate a configuration file. If the configuration file /usr/lib/pick/pick0 already exists, the D3 Installation menu displays. For a new installation, the D3 Installation menu displays, using the default configuration file.
  3. Installing D3 with the chosen settings
    Complete these instructions to install D3 with the chosen settings.
  4. Starting the D3 virtual machine
    Before starting the D3 virtual machine, verify that the tape statements in the D3 configuration file are correct.
  5. Restarting the virtual machine
    D3 must be restarted to put UNIX in multiuser mode.
