Use License Manager
BlueZone emulation clients can be licensed on a concurrent user basis under the control of the BlueZone License Manager. The BlueZone License Manager is a 32-bit Windows application that can reside on any Windows 95, 98, ME, XP, Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000 or Windows 2003 system. This application must be installed somewhere on the network that is accessible by your BlueZone end users. The License Manager requires very little processing power to handle thousands of client license requests. Therefore, it can be installed on a system running the web server, BlueZone Security Server, or any other Windows PC with excess processing capability.
Note
We recommend using a Windows server operating system in lieu of a Windows PC operating system whenever possible.
The License Manager requires no additional configuration to operate. However, there are several configurable features and options that you may find useful.
Windows 95/98/XP
When the License Manager is installed on a Windows 95/98/XP workstation, it runs as a single application. To start the License Manager, double-click on the License Manager desktop icon. Once the application desktop has been launched, the License Manager starts its initialization routine. If you exit the License Manager application, the License Manager stops and no longer issue licenses.
Note
It is recommended that you add the License Manager to your Windows Startup Group so that Windows automatically starts the License Manager program whenever it starts up. This way if your workstation restarts for any reason (for example, power failure, crash, and so on), the License Manager application automatically starts.
Windows NT/2000/2003 server
When the License Manager is installed on a Windows NT/2000/2003 server, it runs as two components: a License Manager server component that runs as a service and a management console that runs as an application; and the management console application is used to launch, configure, and control the License Manager server component.
By default, during installation, the License Manager server application is set to Automatic so that the License Manager server automatically starts whenever the server is re-started.
Once the License Manager server is started, the License Manager starts its initialization routine even if the License Manager console application is not running. As mentioned above, the License Manager console is a separate application that does not run as a service. You can open and close the License Manager console without affecting the operation of the License Manager service.
License Manager initialization routine
The License Manager initializes for one minute, listening for existing clients that may still be running since the last server shutdown. Any clients still running are issued licenses first, then new license requests are processed.
The License Manager console
To start the License Manager console, double-click on the License Manager desktop icon.
The status bar located at the bottom of the License Manager console indicates the number of purchased concurrent licenses and how many are still available. This display is updated automatically as users connect and disconnect.
