Using the BlueZone License Manager
BlueZone emulation clients may be licensed on a concurrent user basis under the control of the BlueZone License Manager. The BlueZone License Manager is a 32-bit Windows application that can reside on any Windows 95, 98, ME, XP, Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000 or Windows 2003 system. This application must be installed somewhere on the network that is accessible by your BlueZone End Users. The License Manager requires very little processing power to handle thousands of client license requests. Therefore, it may be installed on a system running the web server, BlueZone Security Server, or any other Windows PC with excess processing capability.
NOTE We
recommend using a Windows "server" OS in lieu of a Windows PC
OS whenever possible.
The License Manager requires no additional configuration to operate. However, there are several configurable features and options that you may find useful.
SEE License
Manager Features and License
Manager Options for more information.
When the License Manager is installed on a Windows 95/98/XP workstation, it runs as a single application. To start the License Manager, double click on the License Manager desktop icon. Once the application desktop has been launched, the License Manager will start its initialization routine. If you exit the License Manager application, the License Manager will stop and no longer issue licenses.
NOTE It
is recommended that you add the License Manager to your Windows Startup
Group so that Windows will automatically start the License Manager program
whenever it starts up.
Reason - This way if your workstation re-starts for any reason (ie: power failure, crash, etc.), the License Manager application will automatically be started.
When the License Manager is installed on a Windows NT/2000/2003 server, it runs as two components. A License Manager Server component that runs as a "Service", and a Management Console that runs as an application. The Management Console application is used to launch, configure and control the License Manager Server component.
By default, during installation, the License Manager Server application is set to "Automatic" so that the License Manager Server will automatically start whenever the server is re-started.
Once the License Manager Server is started, the License Manager will start its initialization routine even if the License Manager Console application is not running. As mentioned above, the License Manager Console is a separate application that does not run as a "Service". You can open and close the License Manager Console without affecting the operation of the License Manager Service.
The License Manager initializes for one minute, listening for existing clients that may still be running since the last server shutdown. Any clients still running are issued licenses first, then new license requests are processed.
To start the License Manager Console, simply double click on the License Manager desktop icon.
The StatusBar located at the bottom of the License Manager Console, indicates the number of purchased Concurrent Licenses and how many are still available. This display is updated automatically as users connect and disconnect.
