Using Session Manager

Using Profile Mode

It is important to understand that Profile Mode works differently from Registry Mode.  File Mode is set by your BlueZone Administrator.

How to tell what File Mode you are using

Check the Session Manager StatusBar.  In Profile Mode, Session Manager displays a diskette icon .  In Registry Mode Session Manager displays a registry icon .  The following example shows Session Manager in Profile Mode:

Profile Mode

When using Profile Mode, all your BlueZone configuration settings are saved to a file or as we call it, a profile.  When you save your BlueZone configuration settings, you will not see a file save dialog, if the file already exists.  BlueZone simply updates the file with your changes.  If the file does not exist, like in the case of a new session, BlueZone will prompt you for a file name.

Session Description vs. Connection Name

Session Description is the description of the particular BlueZone emulator client.  For example, Mainframe Display is a session description.  Connection Name is the name you give a host connection when you are configuring a new host connection.

Some End Users prefer to have a one-to-one relationship between the "session" and the "connection".  This is accomplished by creating a session that contains only one host connection, and saving that session to a profile using the

Example: Create a new Mainframe Display session, give the session a profile name of "Host A.zmd".  Create one connection called "Host A".  Make sure the Use Connection Name as Session Description checkbox is checked.  Exit the session and save it.

When you refresh the Session Manger, the icon associated with the Mainframe Display you just created will be named "Host A" which will connect to a host called "Host A".

In BlueZone it is possible to create multiple connections under one profile.  If you do this, and have the Use Connection Name as Session Description checkbox checked, the name of the associated icon will be the Connection Name that was last used.  This might be confusing.  When one profile contains many host connections, we recommend that you use the profile name as the name of the associated icon.  This is accomplished by not checking the Use Connection Name as Session Description checkbox.
