Off to a Great Start
The first quarter was a good one for the U2 Business, and the team is working to keep up the momentum. Be sure to check out the new Success Stories on the www.rs.com/u2 site, and watch for a soon-to-be released flyer featuring quotes from many of Rocket U2’s customers and partners, highlighting their successful use of the U2 data servers.
We’re in the process of selecting a site for this year’s U2 University, which will be in Denver in November. We’re looking for a site downtown, since many of you indicated on your surveys after last year’s event that you enjoyed walking around and taking in the sites.
April included many meetings with customers and a Summit Meeting with US partners. I also delivered a keynote address at the International Spectrum conference here in Denver. I shared my vision of the future of MultiValue databases, a future that I firmly believe is very bright.
Sincerely,
- Susie Siegesmund Vice President and General Manager, Rocket U2
Rocket U2 Signs IBM

Online Documentation Changes
As of September 30, 2010, we will be removing old documentation from our Web site and replacing it with the latest documentation versions branded as Rocket Software. If you wish to keep old versions of our documentation, please download them before that deadline. After September 30th, older documentation will only be available for products that you order from U2BusinessConnect (U2BC).
Product Authorization Grace Period
The product authorization grace period for all U2 products is being reduced from 60 to 10 days. Authorization services are available online 24x7 at u2tc.rocketsoftware.com/authprod.asp. Standard 60-day evaluation licenses continue to be available through your ISV or Rocket if you have a direct contract, but must be authorized. This grace period change will take effect in UniVerse 11.1, UniData 7.3, wIntegrate 6.2, Web DE 5.0, and in SB/XA 6.0.2.
Announcing the U2 DataVu Beta Program
U2 DataVu brings the power of Rocket Shuttle to U2 Developers providing powerful and flexible reporting capabilities. U2 DataVu gives native access to UniData and UniVerse providing easy to use graphical drag and drop capabilities to build visual reports and dashboards with zero programming. Rocket U2 is looking for customers who are interested in participating in the U2 DataVu Beta program starting in June. If you are interested please email u2askus@rs.com asking to participate in the U2 DataVu Beta program.
UniVerse
Interested in connecting UniVerse to Oracle?
External Database Access (EDA) gives you the ability to leverage the strength of more than one database while preserving the business logic built into existing applications. If you are interested in testing a new EDA driver for Oracle, please contact us by sending email to u2askus@rs.com.
Basic Developer Toolkit Replacing UniDebugger
With the release of UniVerse 11.1, the Basic Developer Toolkit (BDT) will replace UniDebugger. BDT is an integrated, graphical development environment built with Eclipse that gives programmers the ability to explore UniData resources and edit, compile and debug code in UniBasic. UniDebugger will no longer ship with releases of UniVerse 11.1 or higher, and future releases of UniData will also ship without UniDebugger.
Announcing Web DE 4.4.3
U2 Web Development Environment (Web DE) allows you to create and deploy U2 business data and logic through the Web using RedBack Objects (RBOs), achieving true scalability for variable loads for your applications. Web DE V4.4.3 has been rebranded as a Rocket Software product and resolves some performance issues identified on V4.4.1 and V4.4.2. Please see the Product Availability Matrix (PAM) for more information.
Announcing SystemBuilder Extensible Architecture for UniData and UniVerse (SB/XA) V6.0.2
SB/XA is a Rapid Application Development and deployment environment that delivers up-to-the-minute interface design and portable reporting capabilities designed to help you maximize your investment in Rocket U2 technology. Existing SB+ applications can be automatically converted to SB/XA without requiring changes to your underlying code, and the latest release of SB/XA builds on previous capabilities by providing support in our latest XAML clients for:
- MAPI support via host routines for email automation
- VBScript integration to support client-side scripting in Microsoft clients
- HTML Report Writer output support
SB/XA 6.0.2 has been completely rebranded as a Rocket Software product, and it also removes Btrieve from SBClient, eliminating conflicts with third-party software that also used Btrieve.

Webcasts
On April 22, Stuart Mackenzie, Advisory Software Engineer, and Vinnie Smith, Rocket U2 Tools Product Requirements Manager, gave a presentation on SB/XA. This webinar went through the steps for upgrading an application, converting screens from character or GUI and simple styling techniques that you will be able to immediately take advantage of within your own applications. If you were unable to attend the webcast or if you attended and want to review what you learned, be sure to check out this recording.
In addition to the recorded webcast, we encourage you to access the PowerPoint presentation for additional reference. We hope this material helps you optimize your use of SB/XA.
