Configuration setups

The configuration of OpenDB can involve one computer or as many as three.

The examples below show OpenDB configurations and the location of the items described in the previous steps.

  • If D3 and the ODBC databases are running on the same computer running a Windows operating system, then only one computer is involved in the OpenDB configuration.

Note: These examples are recommended configurations for OpenDB to optimize performance. OpenDB can reside on any Windows computer on the network.
  • If D3 and the ODBC database are running on separate computers, both running a Windows operating system, then OpenDB is running on the same computer as the ODBC database to be accessed.

  • If the ODBC database is not installed on a computer running a Windows operating system but the D3 database is, then OpenDB is running on the same computer as the D3 database.

  • If both D3 and the ODBC database are not running on a computer running a Windows operating system, then OpenDB is running on any computer running a Windows operating system on the network.
