The T-DET command detaches the currently attached tape unit from your process. Detaching the tape unit releases it from the exclusive control of your process and makes it available to other users.

Detaches the currently selected tape unit from any process it may be attached to (except the Spooler). You must have SYS2 privileges to use the U option. |
Description
Used without the U option, T-DET simply detaches the currently attached tape unit from your process although the tape unit remains selected. If multiple tape units are attached to your process, T-DET detaches all of them.
If your process is not currently attached to the selected tape unit when you issue the T-DET command, the following message displays:
[1147] NOT ATTACHED! |
The U option affects only the currently selected tape unit. If a selected tape unit is currently attached to another process, using T-DET with the U option detaches the tape unit from the other process and makes it available again. If the selected tape unit is one of a chained set, the entire set is detached.

Rocket does not recommend using the U option to detach tape units, since other processes may be using those tape drives. |
Any attached tape unit is automatically detached from your process when you log off.
