Saving and Compiling Key Definitions

When you elect to save and compile the key definitions, the following steps occur:

1. The key and lookup column equations are compiled into stackcode equations that are compatible with the
   CALC( ) function.

2. Any existing DB-type data section has its BTREE control item updated for the new BTREE structure.

3. A prompt displays asking whether you wish to rebuild the keys for the DB-type data sections.

• Indicate Y to the question concerning rebuilding keys if the changes that you made to the key’s definitions actually changed the key’s structure. A change that only affects the lookup columns does not require that the keys be rebuilt.

• If you do not rebuild the keys at this point, they can always be rebuilt later using the KEY-REBUILD command.
