mvBase clients consume lines in the following three ways:
wildcard client |
Consumes lines by searching at the lowest mvBase line number (within the entire set of mvBase lines) and consumes the first available line. The Server allows connection when a line is available. |
line-pooling client |
Consumes lines by searching at the lowest mvBase line number within a previously defined set of lines (which may be less than the total quantity of mvBase lines on the Server). The client consumes the first available line within that set of lines. The Server allows connection when one or more of those lines (in that group of lines) is available. |
line-specific client |
Consumes the one specific line allocated to it. The Server allows connection when that specific line is available. |
This list of specific mvBase clients summarizes their corresponding line-consumption options:
mvTerm clients |
Define the line during logon/connection. mvTerm clients consume one line per session, and that line may be wildcard or specific. |
COM ports clients |
Define the line via the Ports tab of the Workstation (Administration Utility), and consume one line per connected COM port. That line may be wildcard or specific. |
Windows printers |
Define the line via the Printers tab of the Workstation (Administration Utility), and consume one line per connected printer. That line may be wildcard or specific. |
Telnet clients |
Define the line via the Telnet Servers tab of the Workstation (Administration Utility), and consume one line per session. That line may be wildcard, line-specific or line-pooling. |
NOTE |
mvTerm clients connect to the mvBase Server independent of the mvBase Workstation. |
mvBase includes the mvTelnet Server as a standard feature. Powerful and cost-effective Telnet clients are available through third-party vendors. mvTelnet governs lines allocated to Telnet clients.
