Selective Backups

Backups can take a long time to carry out. You can shorten the time it takes to do a complete backup by using the CHANGE-FILE command to exclude accounts and files whose data rarely changes and for which you already have adequate backups.

NOTE

All other users must be logged off before you DX accounts or files, since the SYSTEM Dictionary is altered by this procedure.

CAUTION

Be careful when using a selective backup medium to restore data on the disk drive. When restoring data from a selective backup medium, its contents overwrite the data on disk. This means that any accounts or files on disk which were not saved on the selective backup medium are permanently lost.
