Before Upgrading

There are four components to the upgrade that must be completed:

  1. Perform a FILE-SAVE.

  2. Stop and shut down mvBase.

  3. Upgrade mvBase.

  4. CAUTION

    Do not uninstall any previous release of mvBase. Install this release over the resident version. That is, use the existing directories, files, and configurations.

To perform a FILE-SAVE on release 1.3 or later

  1. Log off all users with advanced notification to any connected users.

  2. Log to SYSPROG. Type:

  3. LOGTO SYSPROG

  4. Type the tape unit number, and press Enter:

  5. T-SELECT #

  6. where the number sign (#) is the number of the mvBase tape unit used for the FILE-SAVE.

  7. CAUTION

    Do not skip this step. A verified FILE-SAVE is required for the upgrade.

  8. Save any changes to the SYSPROG account. Type:

  9. FILE-SAVE

  10. Type Y at these prompts:

    CONSOLE LISTING TO PRINTER?

    DO YOU WANT FILE STATISTICS REPORT?

    DO YOU WANT TO DO A FILE-SAVE VERIFICATION?

To stop and shut down mvBase

  1. Click Stop from the Workstation tab of the mvBase Administration Utility to shut down the mvBase Workstation.

  2. Close any open mvTerm sessions, reserving one session to perform the shutdown.

  3. Shut down mvBase. Type :SHUTDOWN

  4. (Only for those upgrading from mvBase 3.0) Click Authorization from the mvBase Administration Utility dialog box to record your software ID and authorization code.

Proceed to Installing mvBase to continue the installation.
