Server installation options

Installing D3 Windows Server as a standalone server is the same as installing it as a peer-to-peer server.

D3 Windows Server folders

The default folder locations for the D3 Windows Server components are as follows:

  • The D3Programs and Documentation folders are located in this directory:

  • C:\Program Files\RocketSoftware\D3\

  • The D3Database and D3Virtual folders are located in the path specified by the Windows environment variable %ALLUSERSPROFILE%. For example, on some Windows implementations:

  • C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\RocketSoftware\D3\

D3 Program Group

For typical Server installations, these features are included in the D3 Program group:

  • Device Manager: Configures VME devices and characteristics.

  • Activation: Activates the system.

  • File Manager: D3 File Manager.

  • Documentation: Includes Class Library Help, D3 Reference Manual, Release Notes, System Administration Guide, Users Guide, and the MVSP User's Guide and .NET & Java APIs (if you chose to install MVSP during a Custom installation).

  • License Agreement

  • TCL: Allows a remote VME connection through MS-DOS.

Note: If performing a Custom installation, File Manager, D3 TCL, and D3 FlashBASIC from MS-DOS are not included in the program group if the Utilities feature is cleared in the Custom Setup screen.
Installation Type What it installs...
Custom

Your choice of these features:

  • A 256 MB Virtual Machine Environment (VME) with 256 ports and 16 phantom ports. Runs green screen applications on a single, centralized system with other PCs running as client-only (see Client setup) using this server from ODBC or SQL.

Sets the VME Service to start manually or automatically when Windows is restarted. Services log on as the Local System Account (unless you specify a user account) and interact with the desktop.

  • The VME server as standalone where it is the MDS Server.

  • The File System Interface (FSI) Server. Serves as the FSI server for the database. Allows multiple VME servers to access centralized data and allows RPC/ODBC incoming requests.

Sets the FSI Service to start manually or automatically when Windows is restarted. Services log on as the Local System Account (unless you specify a user account) and interact with the desktop.

  • Device Manager: Configures VME devices and characteristics.

  • Client: RPC run times. This component is not necessary for ODBC Clients.

  • The D3 Utilities: D3 File Manager, D3 TCL, and running D3 FlashBASIC from MS-DOS.

  • Help: D3 Documentation.

  • MVSP Server

  • Windows Authentication

Typical Install all the features listed above (with the exception of Windows Authentication) with no ability to include or exclude individual features.

To use ODBC connectivity, do one of the following:

  • Install the D3 ODBC Client driver on the client system. Go to the Rocket D3 connectivity on the Rocket Software Web Site:

  • Navigate to the ODBC driver on the FTP site.

  • To review the documentation, go to the Rocket Software Web Site:
