Creating and Editing Synonyms

Synonyms (or Q-pointers) are used in account Master Dictionaries to point to other files. Complete the appropriate set of instructions below to create or edit a synonym.

To create a new synonym:

  1. Right-click the Synonyms node in which you want to create a new synonym from the Domain Explorer and select the Edit Synonym option.

    The Table Synonym dialog box displays.

  2. Provide the following values:

    Name

    Synonym name.

    Database

    Name of the Master Dictionary (account) where the destination table resides. If the Database name is not specified, the current account name is assumed.

    Table name

    Name of the destination table to which this item points. If the table name is not specified, it is assumed that it has the same name as the Database name.

  3. Click Save.

    The synonym is created and displays under the Synonyms node in the Domain Explorer.

To edit an existing synonym:

  1. Right-click the synonym to edit from the Domain Explorer and select the Edit Synonym option.

    The Table Synonym dialog box displays.

  2. Do one of the following:

    The specified edit/delete operation is complete.
