D3 Virtual Disk menu

Edit and modify the system's disk usage in the D3 virtual disk menu. This menu is an option or sub-menu of the Display/Modify D3 configuration menu.

The D3 virtual disk menu allows the user to edit and modify the system's disk usage. T

Note: This menu creates and deletes partitions for D3.

Partitions numbered 1-4 are primary or extended partitions. Partitions numbered greater than 5 are logical partitions. Only the Use an existing partition option is supported with Logical Volumes. Using any other option is not supported and might produce unpredictable results.

Menu Option Description
Add D3 virtual disk

Use this option to add a new virtual disk.

This option adds the virtual disk to D3 and creates the partition on the hard disk. Select this option several times to add multiple partitions.

You will see a list of all free disk space, followed by a prompt that allows selection of one of the partitions.

Partition(s)
1) /dev/sdb3
Enter your choice or '0' to return to
previous menu : 1

The next prompt requests the partition size in 1 KB blocks. The actual size of the partition will be slightly larger due to rounding to the end of the current cylinder, so no disk space is wasted.

Enter size (Max 455048): 150000
Delete D3 virtual disk

Use this option to remove a virtual disk from D3.

You will see a list of all the D3 virtual disks.
Logical Volume(s)
1) /dev/sdb1
2) /dev/sdb2
Enter your choice or '0' to return to previous menu : 1
Restore original configuration Cancels changes made during this session and restores the original values.
Use an existing partition/logical volume

Use this option to add an existing partition or logical volume to D3.

This option adds a virtual disk to D3 but does not create the disk partition. Select this option several times to use multiple partitions.

A list of existing disk partitions/logical volumes and a prompt display to select the partition to use. An * (asterisk) after a partition means the partition is flagged bootable.

Partition(s)
1) /dev/sda1 615408 *
2) /dev/sda2 33792
3) /dev/sda3 405504
4) /dev/sdb1 205032
5) /dev/sdb2 102856
Enter your choice or '0' to return to
previous menu : 4

Not all partitions/logical volumes indicated are necessarily available for D3 use. For example, the list of existing partitions might contain Linux Native root or swap partitions, which should not be used for D3.

Warning: On a new installation, D3 will attempt to allocate 75% of unpartitioned disk space to the D3 virtual machine (up to 2 terabytes).

If there is more than one physical disk found on the system, D3 will use 75% of the unpartitioned space from the physical disk with the most unpartitioned disk space.

This default disk, which D3 will automatically create if there is unpartitioned disk space, must be manually deleted from the configuration with the Delete D3 virtual disk option prior to loading ABS and datafiles. Otherwise, this default disk will be used in addition to any disk partitions added using the Use an existing partition option.

Return to the Installation Menu After the new configuration has been set, from the D3 virtual disk menu, enter 0 to return to the Display/Modify D3 configuration menu. This menu displays all changes made.
