This topic discusses requirements for installing D3 on UNIX systems.
Linux must be installed on the system prior to installing D3. The Linux installation process is explained in the product documentation for your Linux distribution. When the Linux installation is complete, a final reboot is required to load all packages. The system is now a full Linux installation, ready for the D3 installation.
The target machine is the machine on which D3 Linux runs.
If this system already contains a prior release of Advanced Pick or D3 please see Upgrade issues .
If a previous version of D3 has been loaded on this system, execute these instructions:
Ensure that there is at least one complete file-save of the system (preferably two) prior to starting this procedure.
Verify the save tape with the t-verify command.
Ensure all Linux data is backed up prior to proceeding with the upgrade.
If no previous version of D3 has been loaded on this system, proceed to Hard drive preparation below.
Partitions
When partitioning the hard disk, be advised that D3 uses raw disk partitions or logical volumes to store data.
DO NOT create a file system on these partitions.
DO NOT make them mountable.
DO NOT place them in the /etc/fstab file.
Set up the hard disk with one or more partitions or logical volumes with no file system created on them for D3.
These packages are required for D3 Linux to operate correctly; add any other packages as necessary:
C Development
The C Development package differs between Linux releases. See the Linux documentation to determine what components are relevant to your installation.
Development Libraries
Printer support (if using a printer)
Networked Workstation (if you are on a network)
The Red Hat Enterprise Linux packages necessary for the installation of D3 Linux are:
Development Tools.
Printing Support (if using a printer).
Telnet Servers (from the Legacy Network Server group if using the Telnet services).
