Transport Protocols and Certificates

Signed certificates are used to protect communication channels that conform to transport layer protocols such as TLS (Transport Layer Security) and HTTPS (Hypertext Transfer Protocol - Secure). They are used to authenticate peers in the conversation and to encrypt the data that is transferred.
