Creating Persistence Data with ulic /prep

When using the License Management utility (ulic) to activate and return licenses, you need to use the /prep command for certain license types to prepare your system for licensing. /prep enables the creation of Sentinel persistence data which securely maintains licensing data.

Note: Always run /prep as Administrator or Root.

When to use /prep

Use /prep on Unix and Linux for all licensing actions.

On Windows, use /prep with standalone licenses where indicated:

Standalone Licenses on Windows that need /prep:
Standalone License Type Activate license Return license
Cloud-Served (clock tampering enabled) ü ü
Cloud-Served (clock tampering disabled)

On-Premises (clock tampering enabled) ü ü

For network licenses on Windows, persistence data is created automatically when you install the Sentinel RMS License Manager. On clients that are connected to an RMS server which has a Grace-enabled license, persistence data is created automatically on the client.

/prep only needs to be used for commuter licenses. In this case, run ulic /prep on the local client machine.

On Windows, use /prep with network licenses where indicated:

For Cloud LM Licensing, always use /prep for all licensing actions.

Note: /prep must be run as a single command. Run ulic with /prep only before performing your next action.
