Starting Uniface Servers

A Uniface Server can be started by the Uniface Router or it can be started manually and registered with the Uniface Router.

Uniface Servers can be started in several ways:

The Uniface Router can start a Uniface Server when a client connection occurs, using the startup parameters defined in a Uniface Server Type (UST) definition. For more information, see Uniface Server Types (UST).
The number of Uniface Servers it can start and manage, and the number of instances of a shared Uniface Server depend on the configuration settings of both the Uniface Router and the specific Uniface Server ($MAX_SERVERS and /max).
The Uniface Router can automatically start a Uniface Server when the Uniface Router itself starts. For more information, see Pre-Start Uniface Servers .
A Uniface Server can be started manually:
- From the command line. In this case, use the /dnp and/or /ust command line switches to register the server with the Uniface Router. For more information, see /dnp and /ust.
- Using the Uniface Router Monitor. For more information, see Start Uniface Servers from the Uniface Router Monitor.
- Using the START_SERVERS operation of the Uniface internal component UROUTMON. For more information, see UROUTMON .
Starting Uniface Servers manually allows servers to run on platforms other than the one where the Uniface Router is running.
