Sentinel License Types

We offer a number of Sentinel license types for Uniface. When registering with Uniface, you are given an Entitlement Certificate that defines the license model, deployment type, as well as the conditions and permissions associated with the license.

The following license models are available to check out features:

  • Standalone—a license file is deployed and locked to a specific standalone machine.
  • Network—licenses are shared from a central license pool on a license server known as the Sentinel Rights Management System (RMS) License Manager.

Licenses are delivered and activated according to the deployment type:

  • Cloud-served (Lease)—the client application or RMS License Manager connects directly to a cloud-hosted license server, and licenses are extended automatically based on your Entitlement. The license is renewed regularly, by connecting to the server and downloading a new license.
  • On-premises served—a local license file is made available on the client machine or a server. The license is valid for the agreed-upon period of time. On-premises served licenses are used in environments that do not have an internet connection.

The combination of your license model and deployment type determine how your license is configured.

Entitlement Certificate

The information you need to configure your license is found in your Entitlement Certificate, which includes the following:

Entitlement Certificate

  1. Entitlement ID (EID)—a unique ID that identifies your license entitlement. For on-premise served licenses, use the Entitlement ID on the Sentinel EMS customer portal to activate and download your license file. For cloud-served licenses, enter the Entitlement ID during installation or manually using the Uniface License Management Utility (ulic) to activate your entitlement.
  2. Entitlement Details—the details of your entitlement, including the duration of the license, your unique customer ID, whether machine fingerprint registration is required, and the deployment type.
  3. Deployment Type—specifies how your license is deployed (cloud served, or on-premise served).
  4. List of Products/Suites—this section details the features you are entitled to use, the license model, and license start date. Features are grouped into categories such as development, client, and server features, platforms, and connectors.
  5. License Model—specifies your license model (standalone or network). The License Models table below describes the variations available for these license models.

License Configuration

Once you have received your Entitlement Certificate, use your Entitlement ID and license model to configure your license. Each license model has specific configuration steps:

License Models
License Model Name Description
Standalone: standard1

or

Standalone: aggregate2

This is a cloud-served standalone license. Each client has its own license, and connects to the Sentinel Cloud Server to obtain and periodically renew the lease on the license.

To configure this license, see Cloud-Served Standalone License.

Standalone On-Premise served This is an on-premises served standalone license. A local license file is locked to a single machine.

To configure this license, see On-Premises Served Standalone License.

Network: standard1

or

Network: aggregate2

This is a cloud-served network license. Concurrent licenses are centralized on one or more Sentinel RMS License Managers, running on network locations. The RMS synchronizes with the Sentinel Cloud Server to automatically extend licenses.

To configure this license, see Cloud-Served Network License.

Network On-Premise served This is an on-premises served network license. Concurrent licenses are centralized on one or more Sentinel RMS License Managers, using a local license file on the server.

To configure this license, see On-Premises Served Network License.

Notes:

  1. A standard license is exclusive. This means that if you have two licenses on the same machine for the same feature, the newest license is used, overwriting the older license. Only one license count is used.
  2. An aggregate license allows you to combine licenses. This means that multiple aggregate licenses of the same feature and version can exist on the same machine, combining the license counts.

Note: For network licenses, you need to download the Sentinel RMS License Manager from Rocket Community: Downloads, under the name Uniface Sentinel RMS.
