Backing up and restoring sites

Prior to upgrading the BlueZone Web-to-Host Wizard or when you make significant changes through the Wizard, it is highly recommended that you backup the sites created through the Wizard. In the event that the server suffers a hard drive failure, you can quickly restore the BlueZone Web-to-Host installation and sites.

Note: If you have the Wizard installed on a PC and copy your sites to a separate web server, your sites are already backed up because they are in two locations.

Backing up sites

  1. Navigate to the root of the web server. For example, if the web server is Microsoft IIS, the root directory is C:\inetpub\wwwroot\.
  2. Copy the site folder(s) and their contents.
  3. Save the site folder(s) in a location off of the web server.
  4. In the BlueZone CD image, copy the BlueZone Web-to-Host folder to the same location. This contains all of the installation files.
Restoring sites

In the event that the BlueZone Web-to-Host web server suffers a hard drive failure, use the following procedure to restore the site(s) after the server is in operating condition.

  1. Using the BlueZone CD image, install BlueZone Web-to-Host on the new server. Refer to Installing the BlueZone Web-to-Host Wizard for more information.
  2. Copy the backed up Web-to-Host sites to the root of the new web server.
  3. Start the BlueZone Web-to-Host Wizard.
  4. Import the backed up sites using the Import feature. Refer to Upgrading BlueZone Web-to-Host for more information.
Automating the backup process

The backup process can be automated with a simple batch file that can be scheduled to run on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis. The site files and their subfolder contents are relatively small. A typical site is less than 100MB.
