Configuring served desktop mode

Served desktop is an optional deployment mode that places the BlueZone emulation clients and related files on a user's computer just as if they were performing a desktop installation of BlueZone.

When served desktop mode is used in conjunction with BlueZone Session Manager, Session Manager automatically downloads the BlueZone emulation client updates to the user's computer, eliminating the need to do manual emulation client updates.
Note: The web page that the user used to initiate the installation of BlueZone automatically closes after the installation is complete. This is a standard feature of served desktop mode.

You must select served desktop mode when you create a launch folder. If you have already created a launch folder and selected the Distribute as Standard Web-to-Host option, you cannot change this launch folder to served desktop deployment mode. You must create a new launch folder.

To configure the served desktop mode:

  1. Open the Web-to-Host Wizard.
  2. Select a site and click Next.
  3. In the Launch Folders window, click Create.
  4. In the Folder Name field, type a name for the launch folder.
  5. Select the Distribute as Served Desktop radio button and click OK.
  6. Click Next.
  7. In the Sessions window, create a session the same way you would for the standard Web-to-Host deployment mode.
  8. Configure the served desktop advanced settings. Refer to Served Desktop settings for more information.

When using the served desktop deployment mode, you can control where the BlueZone files are stored. This is controlled by the Installation Directory option.

In addition, you can configure the following installation options:
  • Use Program Group: If enabled, a program group is created in the Windows Start menu.
  • Program Group Name: You can change the name to something other than BlueZone if you want.
Note: The web page that the user used to initiate the installation of BlueZone automatically closes after the installation is complete. This is a standard feature of served desktop mode.
Additional options can be configured in the Session Manager Options tab:
  • Enable Session Manager AutoUpdate: If enabled, the BlueZone Session Manager program checks with the BlueZone Web-to-Host server and automatically downloads any BlueZone updates to the user.
