Configuring MIME types in IIS on Windows 2003 web servers
BlueZone Web-to-Host can be installed on any web server, including the Microsoft 2003 IIS 6.0 web server. However, because of new security features, the default settings of IIS version 6.0 will not allow the downloading of the unique file types associated with BlueZone Web-to-Host.
In order accommodate this change, the unique BlueZone Web-to-Host file types must be added to the IIS MIME types list. To accomplish this, we provide a VBScript (mime_map.vbs) that automatically adds all of the required file types to the IIS MIME types list.
Refer to Installing on Windows IIS web server platform to learn how to use the provided VBScript to update the MIME types list.
It is possible that you may want to view the MIME types list or you might be in a situation where you may need to manually upgrade an existing installation of BlueZone Web-to-Host making it necessary to configure the MIME types manually.
Note
This procedure applies to Microsoft Windows 2003 IIS 6.0 web servers only.
1. Launch the Internet Information Services Manager console.
2. Just below the top level, select the local computer.
3. Right-click and select Properties.
The local computer properties sheet displays.
4. Click MIME Types.
The MIME Types dialog displays.
5. You can now view the MIME types list or you can edit the list by using New, Edit, or Remove.
Tip
If you are entering MIME types by hand, to save time, copy and paste the MIME type application/octet-stream into each entry.
Note
It is only necessary to add the file extensions for the BlueZone emulation clients that you intend to use. The common files are required for all BlueZone Web-to-Host emulation clients.
Refer to MIME types for a complete list of BlueZone file extensions.
6. When you have completed viewing or entering the required file extensions, click OK and exit all the way out.
7. Stop and restart the World Wide Web Publishing service. This is required in order for any new MIME types to take affect.
8. Test BlueZone Web-to-Host to ensure that it is working properly.
