The profile schemes feature is an important feature of BlueZone Web-to-Host. We encourage you to take a few minutes to read
this overview. You may find this feature very useful.
At a high level, the profile schemes feature allows the BlueZone administrator to be able to override parts of their a users'
BlueZone configuration profiles without overwriting their users' individual configuration customizations.
Many BlueZone Web-to-Host customers allow their users to make and save at least a few configuration customizations. For example,
the display colors, font selection and keyboard mapping settings. Of course, your situation may be different. As the BlueZone
administrator, you decide which BlueZone configuration features to allow and not allow.
Important
If you are deploying BlueZone using the standard Web-to-Host deployment method and you have decided not to enable the
Allow Local Save? feature, it is not necessary to use the profile schemes feature. That's because when users are not able to make their own
BlueZone customizations, BlueZone Web-to-Host allows the BlueZone administrator to make BlueZone configuration profile changes
and download them at any time.
If you are like most BlueZone customers and have decided that you will enable the Allow Local Save? feature, be aware that the Web-to-Host control module is designed to never download and overwrite a top-level BlueZone configuration
profile even if the BlueZone administrator were to modify the configuration profile and post a newer version on the web server.
This protects your users' configuration customizations from being overwritten.
A new BlueZone user, downloading BlueZone for the first time, always receives the latest version of the BlueZone configuration
profile.
Although not being able to overwrite your users' configuration files keeps them happy, it does create a challenge for the
BlueZone administrator. The challenge is, "How can I make changes to certain parts of a BlueZone configuration without overwriting
each user's configuration customizations"?
The answer is to implement the profile schemes feature.
