Configuring the LU pooling feature
The LU pooling feature works in conjunction with the License Manager groups feature. Configuration is accomplished by first creating a group, then assigning the desired range of LUs to the License Manager group.
1. Click Options Groups from the menu bar.
The Group Name dialog opens.
2. Click Add.
The New Group dialog opens.
3. Type the desired Group name and the maximum number of licenses that you want associated with this group.
4. Click OK to create the group.
Note
You can't assign LU/Devices to a group until it is created. That's why the Assign LU/Device Names button is grayed out during the creation of a group.
5. To add LU/Device names to an existing group, highlight the desired Group name and click Edit.
6. Click Assign LU/Device Names to add LU/Device names.
The LU/Device Name dialog opens.
7. Type the desired range of LUs or a single LU name for this group.
Tip
For customers who are using the LU Pooling feature to create a table of individual LU names that are associated with an individual end user, you might find that using the end user's name for group name is the best way to keep track of who is assigned to what LU, or you might find that simply naming the group name the same as the LU name is a better way to keep track.
For example:
Group Name LU Name
jsmith SYSA001
or
SYSA001 SYSA001
8. When you are finished, click OK. Continue to click OK out of all the dialogs.
You receive a message that the License Manager must be restarted before the change take effect.
9. To restart the License Manager, click the Stop Server icon on the toolbar.
10. Click the Start Server icon on the toolbar to start the server again.
Tip
For customers who are using the LU Pooling feature to administer ranges of LUs, make the group name something meaningful so that you can easily associate the range of LUs with the end users that are allowed to receive LUs from that group. Also, when you are using the BlueZone Web-to-Host Wizard to deploy BlueZone Web-to-Host, create a launch page with the same name as each of the License Manager groups that you created. Then configure the BlueZone emulation client with the IP address of the License Manager and License Manager group name that matches the launch page name. Save the BlueZone configuration and give it the same name as the launch page and License Manager group name. Then direct your end users to the appropriate URL (the URL contains the launch page name) to download and run BlueZone. Please keep in mind that this is only a tip. There are other ways of deploying BlueZone with the correct License Manager group name stored in the BlueZone configuration.
Note
It is very important that you conform to the LU Naming and Range conventions specified by IBM. For detailed information on LU Naming, refer to the IBM LU Naming and Range Specification Guide.
