How To Guide - Troubleshooting |
BlueZone Web-to-Host |
If you are having a problem getting BlueZone Web-to-Host to run properly, check the following list of errors. Each one links to a corresponding possible cause and solution.
"I get the following error when launching BlueZone as a Served Desktop Client"
Netscape - "I can't get the plug-in’s to download to my PC"
Internet Explorer - "I can't get the plug-in’s to download to my PC"
America On Line - "I can't seem to get BlueZone to work with AOL"
"I get the following error when launching BlueZone as a Served Desktop Client"
Probable Cause
You have not copied the desktop.ini file to the BlueZone Product Folder.
Solution
On the web server where BlueZone Web-to-Host is installed, copy the desktop.ini file from the BlueZone Web-to-Host "options" folder to the appropriate BlueZone Product Folder. For example, if you installing BlueZone Mainframe, then you need to copy the desktop.ini file to the bz3270 folder.
SEE How to Enable the BlueZone Served Desktop Client Mode for more information.
Internet Explorer and Netscape on all platforms - "I get the following error when I launch a BlueZone Printer Session"
Probable Cause
This error will occur when you launch a BlueZone Printer session without ever having launched a BlueZone Display session. To make downloads quicker, we do not include the RTN3270E.DLL or the RTN5250E.DLL file inside the BlueZone Printer CAB file. This DLL is delivered via the BlueZone Display CAB file.
Solution
You must launch a BlueZone Display session at least one time before launching a BlueZone Printer session. Once the BlueZone Display Session launches, the RTN3270E.DLL or the RTN5250E.DLL will download and from then on, be available for future printer sessions.
Internet Explorer on all platforms - "I get the following two errors when I try to launch a BlueZone Session"
“I click the OK button, and I get the following error”
Probable Cause
BlueZone We-to-Host is looking for the file named default.ini located in the path shown in the error box. This file is either missing, has an incorrect path or perhaps is misspelled.
The reason for the second error is that the Registration Key is contained in the default.ini file. Since this file can't be found, an Invalid Registration Key error is posted.
Solution
Browse to the BlueZone Product Folder on the web server that is in question, and check to see if the file exists and is spelled correctly. Correct the problem and try again.
Internet Explorer on all platforms - "I get the following two errors when I try to launch a BlueZone session"
"I click the OK button, and I get the following error"
Probable Cause
BlueZone Web-to-Host is looking for the file mfdisp1.zmd located in the path shown in the error box. This file is either missing, has an incorrect path or perhaps is misspelled. Error 404 is a file not found error.
The reason for the second error is that the mfdisp1.zmd file, that can't be found, is a BlueZone configuration file. Since this file can't be found, a "Not a valid configuration file" error is posted.
Solution
Browse to the BlueZone Product Folder on the web server that is in question, and check to see if the file exists and is spelled correctly. Correct the problem and try again.
Internet Explorer on all platforms - "The BlueZone display emulator launches but for some reason, my configured session does not launch. Instead, BlueZone is prompting me to "Define a New Connection". If I go to File:Open, the configuration file for the session I want is there and I can manually launch it"
Probable Cause
BlueZone Web-to-Host is downloading the correct configuration file to your PC (otherwise you would not be able to manually launch it) but the name of the configuration file in the Object Tag is incorrect or misspelled. If the problem was elsewhere, like a missing configuration file, you would get a 404 error (file not found) as described in the above examples.
Solution
Edit the web page that contains your Object Tag with Notepad, (obj_d_3.htm for mainframe and obj_d_5.htm for iSeries) and make sure that the configuration file that is called out in the Object Tag matches the file that is called out in the Distribution File.
For example, in the following Object Tag, the Distribution File is display.e3d. The Configuration File is mfdisp1.zmd.
<!-- Start IE Section -->
<OBJECT ID="Seagull Web-to-Host Control Module"
CLASSID="clsid:5274A4E6-90C9-11D5-903D-00105AABADD3"
CODEBASE="../seaglw2h.ocx#Version=-1,-1,-1,-1" HEIGHT=0 WIDTH=0>
<PARAM NAME="IniFile" VALUE="default.ini">
<PARAM NAME="Sessions" VALUE="MD_S1">
<PARAM NAME="MD_DistFile" VALUE="display.e3d">
<PARAM NAME="MD_S1" VALUE="mfdisp1.zmd">
</OBJECT>
<!-- End IE Section -->
<!-- Start Netscape Section -->
<OBJECT TYPE="application/x-bluezone" HEIGHT=0
WIDTH=0>
<PARAM NAME="IniFile" VALUE="default.ini">
<PARAM NAME="Sessions" VALUE="MD_S1">
<PARAM NAME="MD_DistFile" VALUE="display.e3d">
<PARAM NAME="MD_S1" VALUE="mfdisp1.zmd">
</OBJECT>
<!-- End Netscape Section -->
Distribution File:
bzmd.cab,1
mfdisp1.zmd,1
seaglapl.ttf,1
../seagull.saf,1
Check that the Configuration File shown above in red, called out in the Object Tag, matches the name of the Configuration File shown above in green, specified in the display.e3d file. Correct the problem and try again.
"I followed the instructions in the "How To Launch Multiple Display Sessions From a Single Link", and added a second display session to my Object Tag and to my Distribution File, but I can't get the second session to launch!"
Probable Cause
You may have forgotten to add the second session identifier to the “Sessions” PARAM NAME value as shown in green the following example:
<PARAM NAME="Sessions" VALUE="MD_S1,MD_S2"> Correct
Or, you may have added a space after the first session identifier as shown:
<PARAM NAME="Sessions" VALUE="MD_S1, MD_S2"> Incorrect
Solution
Add the Session identifier to the Object Tag or delete the space and try it again.
Internet Explorer on NT 4.0 or Windows 95 - "BlueZone appears to run but the BlueZone 3270 or 5250 emulator never launches... I don't get any kind of error message"
Probable Cause
You may not have the latest Microsoft Foundation Class Libraries installed on your system.
Solution
Download and install the latest MFC’s, then reboot your system and try to launch BlueZone again.
NOTE This file (mfc42.exe) can be found in the "root" BlueZone Web-to-Host folder.
Netscape - "I can't get the plug-in’s to download to my PC"
Probable Cause
You may be running an unsupported version of Netscape or you do not have the “Smart Update” feature turned on. See Test Drive Requirements for specific information on supported browser versions.
Solutions
If you are running Netscape version 4.0.5 or higher, turn on the “Smart Update” feature and try the Test Drive again.
If you are running an unsupported version of Netscape, you will need to download the latest version of Netscape at www.netscape.com, and make sure that Java is enabled and the “Smart Update” feature is enabled.
If you are running Netscape version 6.X or 7.X, make sure that Java is enabled and that the “Software Installation” feature is enabled.
Internet Explorer - "I can't get the plug-in’s to download to my PC"
Probable Cause
You may have an unsupported version of Internet Explorer. See the Minimum Requirements section for specific information on supported browser versions.
Solution
Download the latest version of Microsoft Internet Explorer.
You can download the latest version of Microsoft Internet Explorer at: www.microsoft.com and follow the links to the “download center”.
America On Line - "I can't seem to get BlueZone to work with AOL"
Probable Cause
BlueZone Web-to-Host will only work reliably with AOL versions 5.0 and higher.
Solution
Download and install the latest version of AOL (www.aol.com) and try BlueZone again.
Internet Explorer - "My End Users are on an Intranet and there is a long delay every time they download the Web-to-Host Control Module"
Probable Cause
The Web-to-Host Control Module, which is an ActiveX control, is a "signed" control. This is done so that remote End Users, who may be downloading our module across the Internet, need to know that the control is signed and safe to run. Part of the process of downloading the control is to connect to the web site that created the signed certificate to check to make sure that our control it is still current, valid and safe.
In your case, your End Users are on an intranet with no access to the Internet so this step is not necessary. The solution is to make a change in the End User's browsers.
Solution
Launch Internet Explorer and go to Tools::Internet Options, select the Advanced Tab. Scroll all the way down to the last item "Security". Un-check the box next to "Check for server certificate revocation (requires restart)". This will keep IE from trying to access the Verisign web site to validate our control module.
Netscape - "I'm using Netscape Version 4.72 and I can't get BlueZone Web-to-Host to work on a Windows 2000 PC, but it woks fine on a Windows 98 PC"
Probable Cause
Due to problems with Netscape, version 4.72 will not work on a Windows 2000 PC.
Solution
Upgrade your Netscape browser to a version that does work with BlueZone Web-to-Host. It is recommended that you use version Netscape version 4.79 or higher.
