Problem 1
"After installing the Web Manager, I can get to the Host Access Login screen but I get the following error when I attempt to log on..."The page cannot be displayed message - HTTP 500 - Internal server error."

Problem 2
"When trying to access the Web Manager for the first time, I get a VBScript permission  error."

Problem 1

After installing the Web Manager, I can get to the Host Access Login screen but I get the following error when I attempt to log on..."The page cannot be displayed message - HTTP 500 - Internal server error."

Solution:

Make sure that you have the Enable parent paths checkbox checked on the Options tab of the Application Configuration dialog.  Without this checkbox checked, IIS will not be able to resolve the relative links used in the Web Manager Application.

To enable the Enable parent paths checkbox, follow this procedure:

  1. Launch the Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager.

  2. Expand the tree to show all the web sites.

  3. Locate the web site under which Web Manager is installed.

  4. With your mouse, highlight he web site, right click and select properties. The web site’s properties dialog will be displayed.

  5. Select the Home Directory tab.

  6. Click the Configuration button, then the Options tab.  The Application Configuration dialog will be displayed.

  7. Check the “Enable parent paths” checkbox.

  8. Click the OK and OK again to close the dialog.

Problem 2

"When trying to access the Web Manager for the first time, I get a VBScript permission  error."

Error Type:

Microsoft VBScript runtime (0x800A0046)

Permission denied

/swm/system/functions.asp, line 398

Solution:

It's possible that you don't have the proper access permissions set on your server.

  1. Browse with Explorer (not Internet Services Manager) to the folder where you just installed the SEAGULL Web Manager.

  2. Highlight it, right click and go to properties.

  3. Go to the Security Tab. What you see next will depend on how much the owner of this system has customized the security settings.

  4. Look for an account called "Everyone". If there is no "Everyone" then look for an account called "User".

  5. Highlight it and look in the permissions box.  You should see six check boxes.

  6. Remote users must have the ability to "write" to files on the web server.

  7. Check the "write" box and uncheck the "Allow inheritable from parent to propagate to this object" box.

  8. Click Apply. You will get a message box.

  9. Click Remove then Apply.  The Web Manager should work properly now.

Alternate Solution:

If there is no "User" account or if you do not want to give write permission to all "Users", you can add the Internet User account to this folder and give this account "write" permission.  Be sure to propagate the permissions to the "children" (folders below this level).
