The Port Search utility is used to search the system for active listening ports. This is useful to determine if other programs or services are running that have a TCP/IP port open for connection. Since the search is performed by the Security Server Service on the machine where it is installed, and not by the remote Security Server Manager, Security Server must be started. If Security Server is running, the ports that it is using will show up in the Ports: list. If the Security Server is paused, only the ports active in other applications will appear in the Ports: list.
To activate a port search:
Highlight the IP Address in the IP Address: list to be searched.
Click the Search... button. The cursor changes to an hourglass.
Wait for the Status: indicator to change from Searching... to Done.
Active or listening ports are listed in the Ports: list.
Look up any ports below 1024 in "RFC-1700 Assigned Numbers", to help identify the service or protocol active on the port.
The Name Resolution utility is used to resolve an Internet Name or URL to an IP address. Name resolution takes some additional time and may encounter a Winsock timeout if a Domain Name Server (DNS) cannot be found or the name cannot be resolved.
To resolve a name to an IP Address:
Enter the name or URL to be resolved in the Host Computer Name: edit box.
Click the Resolve button.
The resolved IP address will appear in the Resolved IP Address: box.
Click the Done button to close the dialog.
Runs a test that determines the maximum number of socket connections allowable on the server hosting SEAGULL Security Server.
