Installing and Activating a Server Certificate

Once a server certificate has been obtained from a CA or a self-signed certificate has been generated, it must be Installed and then Activated in the Security Server.  Up to 64 Server Certificates can be installed in the SEAGULL Security Server.

To Install a Server Certificate:
  1. Retrieve the certificate file as instructed by the CA. Copy the certificate from the file or email, then paste it to a file with a .CER extension. Take care when copying the text to not allow any additional spaces or line breaks to be added to the certificate.  Self-signed certificates generated by the SEAGULL Security Server already have .CER extensions.

  2. Go to Certificates:Install and select the Server Certificates & Keys radio button.

  3. Click Browse... to select both the certificate and private key filenames.  Certificates will have .CER or .PEM extensions and the private key file will have .KEY or .PEM extensions.  Hold the shift key down so you can select both files at the same time.  Click Open to place the filenames in the dialog edit box.

  4. Click the Install button to copy the files to the SEAGULL Security Server.

To Activate a Server Certificate:
  1. Go to Certificates:Server.  You will see the Server Certificates dialog box which will display any Server Certificates that are currently installed.

  2. To add this Server Certificate to the Active Certificate List, click the New button and then browse to the Server Certificate by clicking the Browse button.

  3. Set the paths to the Server Certificate and Private Key Files, specify the Private Key Password and click the OK button to save the settings.

  4. Stop and Start the Security Server to load the newly specified certificate.

Go to Certificates:Server.  You should now see the new Server Certificate in the Server Certificates List box.
