Translation tab

Use the Remote Character Set option on the Translation tab to manually select an interpretation value for VT data.

During an interactive session, VT receives a stream of 8-bit bytes from the host. To display the bytes on the screen, specify the type of character set to use for interpretation. By default, Use Current System Locale is selected, but you can select other values.

These conditions apply:

  • UTF-8 encoding of Unicode represents most characters. Data that comes from the server is interpreted as UTF-8 and keystrokes are sent as UTF-8 encoded.
  • The ISO-8859 series are all standard character sets that include various accented characters, which are applicable to different sets of languages.

If the ConvertUTF8Latin value in the global.ini/VT file is set to Yes, the Remote Character Set option is interpreted as UTF-8 and disabled.
